When life sends you on a detour

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road… unless you fail to make the turn. All of life is a journey; which paths we take, what we look back on, and what we look forward to is up to us. We determine our destination, what kind of road we will take to get there, and how happy we are when we get there.” ~ Author Unknown

This is a quote a friend shared with me today. I have been on an incredible road trip of late chasing my life’s dreams. It has been brilliant. Recently however it was brought to my attention, in a rather sudden way, that I may be forced to take a detour through some rough paddocks. Although as depressing as this seems, as I felt I was taking a step backwards instead of forwards, I realised instead of pulling away from it I need to go full steam ahead. Even though the road doesn’t look like much fun, I know there must be something I need to discover from it.

And I am sure it isn’t as bad as I am thinking it will be, because don’t we create our own destiny? And don’t we create how we feel? If I feel unhappy isn’t that because I am choosing not to find joy in a particular moment? How will I know this road won’t be joyful? Yes, it might not be the route I envisioned, but in this circumstance I have no other choice but to drive right through it. And I know if I keep focus on my goals, on my happiness then nothing will get in the way of me accomplishing my dreams.

Only I can give up on myself. And I won’t be. I will never give up. Just because I haven’t achieved my dreams yet doesn’t mean I never will. It doesn’t mean a few attempts or a couple hundred mean I am a failure. As long as each turn I find something to improve on, something to learn from and grow then it is all worth it.

I am grateful for the time I have had in discovering my dreams and I am grateful for the time I will continue to create (no matter how hectic things become). Because no matter what road blocks I encounter, nothing will stop me in achieving my dreams. Watch out world, here I come.
